MoreA DO, or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, is a medical degree that is similar to an MD in many ways, but with a focus on a holistic approach to healthcare. Like MDs, DOs are licensed physicians who diagnose and treat patients in a variety of medical settings. However, DOs also receive specialized training in osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM), which involves hands-on techniques for diagnosing and treating various musculoskeletal conditions. OMM is based on the principle that the body's musculoskeletal system is closely connected to other systems in the body, such as the nervous and circulatory systems, and that manipulating the body's structure can promote healing and improve overall health. In addition to their training in OMM, DOs also receive training in all of the traditional medical disciplines, such as anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and pathology. After completing their medical education and clinical training, DOs are eligible to apply for licensure to practice medicine in their country. Like MDs, they can specialize in a wide range of medical specialties, such as cardiology, neurology, and obstetrics and gynecology.
